Mike Nebgen
Master Instructor
Originally from Baytown, Texas, Kwan Jang Nim Michael “Mike” Nebgen began training in 1988 in Tang Soo Do under Master Allen Sharpe in Huntsville, Texas, and continued training and teaching as an assistant under Master Sharpe’s supervision until Mike’s graduation from Sam Houston State University in 1991.
In October 1991, KJN Mike relocated to Houston where he began an accelerated training course at the Clear Lake Kuk Sool Won dojang. Within a couple of years KJN Mike was a Black Belt instructor teaching and training for many hours each day.
He opened Meyerland Martial Arts in June 1996, where he began to emphasize safety and student longevity in martial arts training, particularly in the context of training methodologies that have the best long-term benefits with the least long-term injuries.
Most rigorous traditional training can be augmented to have the most benefit and the least detriment for the long-term improvement of students of any age. KJN Mike has collected literally thousands of data points to document how training safety can be constantly improved, including developing higher-level curriculum based on the needs of all ages of students, including adults over 50.
After training hundreds of instructors and developing programs for all ages, KJN Mike has turned Meyerland Martial Arts into arguably the best martial arts skills development program in Houston, covering virtually every facet of martial arts training.
KJN Mike continues to train under the guidance of Master Jay Lee, a professor and consultant on performance enhancement, sports psychology, training, and educational program development.
